Disenchanted by the party's perceived "lack of direction," Professor Gourav Vallabh, Congress's national spokesperson, tendered his resignation from the party on Thursday.

Vallabh, who had been a prominent face representing the party in numerous TV debates, voiced his unease with several recent positions taken by the party. "I find myself uncomfortable with the aimless trajectory of the Congress Party's current path. I cannot align with incessantly raising anti-Sanatan slogans or vilifying the wealth creators of our nation. Therefore, I am stepping down from all positions and primary membership within the Congress Party," he conveyed in a post on X.

"I am deeply disheartened by the Congress's silence when party leaders speak against 'sanatan'. Additionally, I am troubled by the party's stance on the Ram Mandir issue," Vallabh conveyed to news agency PTI. He further alleged that the Congress party is straying from its fundamental principles. "Currently, the party is veering off course. On one hand, we advocate for a caste-based census, while on the other hand, the party appears to be at odds with the entire Hindu society. This approach sends a misleading message to the public, suggesting that the party favors a particular religion exclusively. Such a stance contradicts the basic tenets of the Congress," he asserted. In his two-page letter, the former Congress spokesperson also criticized the party's approach to economic matters, claiming it consistently "humiliates and vilifies the wealth creators of the country." He questioned the party's shift away from the economic liberalization, privatization, and globalization (LPG) policies, for which it was once praised internationally. "Is it wrong to generate income through business in our country?" he pondered. "When I joined the party, my sole objective was to utilize my expertise in economic affairs for the country's benefit. Despite not being in power, we could have advocated for the party's economic policy-making in the national interest more effectively in our manifesto and elsewhere. However, this effort was not undertaken at the party level," he lamented. Gourav Vallabh contested the Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency in 2023. Unfortunately, he lost to the BJP candidate by a margin of around 32,000 votes.
